Description/storyline of your film: A dancer, Leah, tries to get back to her life while in recovery in an online eating disorder program.

Director: Lalia Hays
Producer: Amanda Quaid, Lalia Hays, Wiley Water Productions
Writer: Lalia Hays
Cast: Lalia Hays, Winsome Brown, Georgia Lifsher, Lily Yin, Sharon Lesser, Amari O’Connor, Sara Natochenny
Cinematographer: Fletcher Wolfe
Editor: Jasmin Way

Semi-Finalist Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, Official Selection Soho International Film Festival.

How Are We Feeling Today? aims to change how eating disorders & mental health are usually portrayed in film by telling an authentic, raw, sometimes funny story of recovery. It tells the story of a dancer with an eating disorder, but this isn't the sad/cliché story of a girl who just won't eat enough. It's a story about fighting like hell to recover and live life on your own terms.

As a queer artist, the director is proud to have worked with incredible queer & non binary artists to tell this story, and hopes to bring awareness to mental health struggles in the LGBTQ+ community.

Music Video

My name is Lê Khoa, proud finalist in the Top 10 of Vietnam Idol 2023. I’m honored to present my latest music video at the Queer LA Film Festival—a project that holds deep personal meaning for me.

As the executive producer, I had the privilege of collaborating with an extraordinary team: Alan Medina, known for producing Kesha’s Boy Crazy; Chris, our visionary director; and Bryan Rone, the brilliant choreographer behind Rihanna’s iconic performances. Together, we brought to life SPIT, a bold and unapologetic anthem.

This music video confronts harsh realities and challenges the quiet stereotypes that often suppress our community. Through fierce artistry and fearless storytelling, I aim to make a powerful statement: "I’m beautiful in my own way—and no one can underestimate me."

Director: Mateusz Pacewicz
Producer: Filip Marczewski
Executive producer: Katarzyna Madaj - Kozłowska
Writer:     Mateusz Pacewicz

Director Statement
The relationship between the social mask and true self has always been my obsession in filmmaking. In “Stimulants & Empathogens” this theme gets a Molieresque spin of a romantic dramedy.

The plot was informed by an extensive research. I talked to activists and experts on the film’s subjects: drug underworld, struggles of an LGBTQ+ teenager in Poland in mid-2020s in both elite schools and “juvies” and last, but far from least, the superiority complex and conditional hospitality manifested at times in the Polish attitude towards Ukrainian refugees - another issue interwoven into the film.

Given its Molieresque, theatrical inspirations, our goal was to make sure that the story is told through a cinematic language, which contrasts the protagonists’ class markers - f.ex. Kuba’s aggressive drill rap and Antek’s cello classical pieces. Clashing social masks in order to deconstruct them fits the message of our film, which happens to be my favorite definition of cinema: “A lie to tell the truth”.

Director's bio: Mateusz Pacewicz
