Better days

Better days

Feature film
USA Premiere

Together they rise, healing hearts and reviving engines. A race on the road to recovery and a brighter future.

Suzanne, a widowed mother of three still grieving for her husband, has turned to alcohol to ease her pain, but is having an increasingly tough time maintaining a functioning façade. Until an accident on the way to school changes everything! Social services give Suzanne no choice: if she wants to keep custody of her kids, she must go into rehab. The initial detox is brutal, but Suzanne starts to find strength in the people around her: the abrasive but endearing Alice, an orphan afraid of her origins; Diane, a washed-up actress whose daughter hates her; and Chantal who has lost everything and battles despair with wry humor. In charge of them is Denis, their sports coach and car workshop teacher, who has signed them up for a women’s car rally in Morocco. Missing her kids like crazy, Suzanne finally makes a choice and joins forces with the other women, as they slowly and sometimes painfully learn to adapt to life without booze. And as bonds of friendship and solidarity grow between them, the Hope Center women prepare for the race of a lifetime, a challenge that could ultimately bring back their self-respect and save them from themselves.

We came up with the idea for the film during the casting of another film. An actor came in and read for a role. Unfortunately, we didn't cast him, but I noticed under his special skills he listed that he was a professional clown. I said to my writing and producing partner that I had never met a professional clown. He said that he knew a guy who did it professionally and then asked me if I knew what was unusual about clowns. I said, "No what?" He said that there are no two that are alike. So I thought about that. Then, about a minute later, I said, "I've got our next project. We'll have a bunch of identically dressed clowns fight to the death for ultimate supremacy, because there can be only one! And we'll call it 'Clown-Lander.’"

Cross My Heart

Cross My Heart

Short Film

A hopeful romantic must confront her partner's flaws to achieve the perfect relationship - no matter the cost.

Director: Nicholas Laudicina
Producer: Shayley Shimkus
Writer: Nicholas Laudicina
Cast: Isabel Stallings, Jordan Davis-Miller, Jordan Cornwell, Shayley Shimkus
Cinematographer: Katie Ann O'Keefe
Editor: Nicholas Laudicina

This film was born over a year ago out of a silly, shared moment between Friction Makes Fire's creative duo, Shayley and Nick. Partners both creatively and personally, their real life and art can sometimes blur, often leading to crazy ideas and even crazier projects. For instance, in one particular special and beautiful moment, a top of a picturesque mountain in Big Sur, Shayley said to Nick "This would be a perfect place to propose", followed immediately after by "What if I killed you when you were proposing?" Nick responded, "Well, I would have the evidence because I hired a photographer." Two days later, the script for Cross My Heart was born. This film became a first passion project of sorts for them, as they challenged themselves to do things they never had before. It was their first crowdfunded project, the biggest crew they have ever worked with, Shayley's first solo producing credit, and first time working with real special effects. The entire process was an absolute blast, with the set and entire production process being the most wonderful experience they could have only dreamed of. They could not be more grateful for the tremendously talented and kind cast and crew they were lucky enough to have on their team, and they are so excited to finally be able to showcase all of their hard work with the world! They hope you enjoy their silly little bloody comedy, and can't wait for many more!

When a man’s troublemaking twin brother starts to upend his life, he must confront the part of himself he’s tried hardest to ignore—before it destroys everything he loves.

Director: Justin Etheredge
Producer: Brad Kaaya
Writer: Brad Kaaya / Justin Etheredge
Cast: Justin Etheredge, Lindsey Marie, Dan Lauria, Patty McCormack
Cinematographer: Justin Richards
Editor: Spenser Reich

Self-Contained began as a story about relationships — the ones we nurture, the ones we run from, and the ones that live inside our own heads. At its core, it’s about a man trying to hold his life together while confronting the most unpredictable roommate of all: himself.

As a filmmaker, I’ve always been fascinated by how humor and pain can coexist — how laughter can sit right next to heartbreak and still feel honest. With Self-Contained, I wanted to explore that delicate balance: a film where the absurdity of an imaginary brother becomes a window into very real questions about love, mental health, and self-acceptance.

Visually, I wanted the film to live somewhere between grounded reality and the surreal — a space that blurs what’s real, what’s imagined, and what’s simply felt. The humor comes from recognition, the emotion from truth.

Ultimately, Self-Contained is a story about learning to make peace with the parts of ourselves we’ve tried to bury. It’s about the chaos that comes with healing and the beauty in accepting that sometimes, we are our own best — and worst — company.

Shampoo turns an everyday shower into a ridiculous, cinematic battle for confidence and control. What began as a small idea evolved into a polished short film with bold visuals, sharp editing, and deadpan performances. I’m proud of how our team made something so absurd feel genuinely epic, and I’m truly happy with how it all came together.

Soupy Sunday

Soupy Sunday

Short Film

"Soupy Sunday" is a heartwarming romantic comedy drama film that delves into the intricacies of feminine and masculine energy as it unfolds over a seemingly ordinary Sunday night dinner. Meet Sherry and Tom, a young couple whose relationship, though appearing to be cold and distant on the surface, is about to be thawed out over a simmering pot of emotions. Or should we say roasted red pepper soup! Sherry initiates an unexpected discussion that transforms their routine dinner into a battleground of desires and unspoken needs. Beneath the mundane conversations and casual banter lies a complex arena of unexplored emotions, challenging the couple to confront the underlying issues that have been quietly brewing.

Additional Details: I’ve been wanting to do a comedic piece for a very long time. I remember writing this story in a very upscale middle eastern café that had opera music playing in the background. Those elements definitely seeped into this very Soupy story. I’ve always had an ambitious vision and I had a super talented supportive team to make it all happen. We shot this on a tight budget but with big passion, enthusiasm, and love. We worked our butts off as a team to accomplish this in a very long one-day shoot.
